Recipes from Maria Emília Cunha

Mi BBQ.jpg (23651 bytes)Mi is a great cook (that is her husband's opinion at least!), who enthusiastically prepares everything from a formal banquet to a casual barbecue. Here she is preparing sardinhas assadas (grilled Portuguese sardines) on a portable gas stove in Nova Scotia on a cold winter day.

Here are some of her recipes, as told to Bill Silvert:
bulletBacalhau a Bras
bulletRed cabbage salad
bulletChau Chau de Pepino
bulletFried Rice
bulletSarapatel, a Goan recipe
bulletLeite Creme, a custard-like desert
These go very well with Portuguese wine.

There are other sources of Portuguese recipes, including:
bulletSome Portuguese recipes from Africa.
bulletPortuguese food with a Hawaiian flavor.

These have not been checked for a while, so the list might be out of date.

You may also want to look at the interesting (but non-Portuguese) ideas about food of her mother-in-law, Violet Oppenheimer.
